I know there's a topic about model shops already but I'm posting this as something we can direct visitors to. I've had occasional queries from Armorama members over the years asking about model shops in Dublin



Personally I used to buy most stuff over the web but now I make a point of dropping into Allmodels at least once a week. I usually leave with a bargain. The shop has moved from beside the barbers on the corner further up the street to Little Angels which used to sell communion dresses( It's closing is probably a sign of the times)
To date Paul hasn't repainted the sign. I don't think he should- he could build a whole new customer base There's a lot more space in the shop which hopefully will fill with new stock. He has a lot more militaria and reenactment gear in stock too.

Anything people want to add about the other shops- feel free. I don't know anything about Motorama at all

Cool, I'm going in Dublin this week end and I was searching for model shop. What a coincidence !
Is it far from the center town (I suppose it's like in Paris, the centertown is around the river) ?
Are there any resin figures in this shop (I'm searching for alpine, and it's a bit hard to find in shops) ?

If you look at the map O Connel Street is the City Centre and All Models is 10-15 minutes walk from there.

I live just beside Motorama and it's all die cast stuff, mostly cars. Not really worth visiting for model kit builders in my opinion.

A little gem not mentioned here is Banba Toymaster on the corner of Henry Street and Mary Street. It stocks a nice range of Revell and Airfix kits and lately has started stocking a nice selection of Academy, Tamiya and AFV Club in all scales; 1/72 all the way up to 1/32. Prices are very agreeable; for instance I picked up an Airfix Buccaneer there for €12 which cost €14, not much of a difference but every little helps.

They're the only store in the city centre that stocks Revell acrylics as far as I know. At the moment they're also selling Games Workshop products at 50% off which is great for GW collectors due to its usual expense.

Good to know about the Toymaster in Mary Street- I'll add it to the list next time I'm up in the Big Smoke.

Just a note on Revell Acryllics (Revell Aqua)- they are fine if you are brush-painting,a bit thick but you can thin them down a bit), but they are a DISASTER if you are airbrushing. Every time I have tried to airbrush with them, the pigments split. I have tried thinning them with water initially and then I tried Halford's screen wash, as well as different Revell Aqua colours, but the results are always the same- white streaks and then the darker base pigment, regardless of the amount of coats I put on.

Revell can be accused of some form of Marketing bastardry, where you can only airbrush Revell Aqua with official Revell Aqua thinners. They probably see it as a revenue raising trick but all it does is annoy modellers. I've never seen Aqua Thinners in the 26 counties but I'm sure a 200ml bottle of it would cost a shedload more than a gallon of Halfords and the only difference would be the addition of a fixing agent (which should be in the gd paint and not in the thinners!).

Anywho, I've been consistently impressed with Revell's kits, credit where credit is due and all that, but just be wary of their Aqua range. Again Tamiya make excellent kits but they do the same crap with their paints.

Luckily I do paint by hand and I model in 1/72 so that isn't much of a problem. I like Revell Aqua because they'll go on to bare plastic with little problem.

Toymaster does sell the Aqua thinner for like €5 a bottle. What I would like to get my hands in is Revells little pots of masking agent, it's supposed to be brushed on then turns into a rubbery like substance easy to peel off. I can't find that anywhere.

I have seen an attempt at brushing on Tamiya and it was disastrous, I avoid the stuff entirely.

If there are any Toymasters in Cork they might carry similar stock.

Another thing I like about Revell is that their aircraft kits are loaded with weapons stores. Just look at their Eurofighter Typhoon or Tornado GR.1 in 1/72.

An update on Toymaster in Dublin. I went in there today to purchase some glues and the staff member manning the till, a fellow modeler in fact, gave me a copy of the 2011 Pocketbond Limited Catalogue.

Toymaster are giving out free copies and the guy said they'd take customer orders from it, not what I was expecting from a local toy store.

I think Marks Models use the same catalogue for orders but I find Toymasters prices that bit more agreeable.
